Enchantment
Friday 24 May 2024 at 8 pm.
Event in Avignon :
Symphony concert by the National Avignon-Provence Orchestra, conducted by Débora Waldman, accompanied by the violonist Geneviève Laurenceau.
An initiatory fable, The Magic Flute is a source of enchantment and edification.
Starting with the very first measures of the overture, a threefold appeal refers to Masonic symbolism. And in just a few measures – in particular a hair-raising fugato – Mozart's genius is expressed in all its glory.
Audiences are gradually rediscovering the work by British composer Guirne Creith (1907-1996). Her violin concerto, written in the early nineteen-thirties, includes a seraphic slow movement and layers a wide variety of atmospheres and sounds. Her work is a worthy counterpart to the work being created by Sibelius and the Russian School.
Schumann's Fourth Symphony stands out with its cyclical form marked by the periodical repetition of its thematic patterns. The obsessive themes which run through it heighten the atmosphere of the 'Rhenane' Symphony. The frenetic energy reflects the composer's personal instability.
